There are several ways to represent colors in CSS. One of them is the HSL system. In this article, I will show you what opportunities it opens up for a layout designer. The name of the HSL format is derived from a combination of the first letters Hue, Saturate and Lightness. Hue is the value of a color on the color wheel and is given in degrees. 0 ° is red, 120 ° is green, and 240 ° is blue. The hue value can range from 0 to 359. Saturation is the intensity of a color, measured as a percentage from 0% to 100%. Determines how far a color is from a gray of the same brightness. Brightness characterizes how bright a color is and is indicated as a percentage from 0% to 100%. Low values make the color darker, and high values lighten, extreme values of 0% and 100% correspond to black and white.

Color laser printing uses the CMYK color scheme, which consists of four standard colors: black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. The name of the CMYK color scheme comes from the first letters of the names of the colors included in it. In theory, black can be obtained by mixing equal proportions of cyan, magenta, and yellow. But this is only in theory. In practice, when the listed colors are proportionally mixed, not black, but a dirty brown color is obtained. This led to the introduction of black process paints into the system. A color model is a way of describing color in terms of quantitative characteristics. A color model is usually understood as a term that denotes an abstract model for describing the representation of colors in the form of three- or four-digit numbers called color components (sometimes color coordinates). The color model is used to describe the emitted and reflected colors. Together with the method of interpreting this data, the set of colors of the color model determines the color space.
