Pantone to CMYK What is the difference between Pantone and CMYK

Pantone is a color model (PMS, Pantone Matching System) developed in the USA. Colors in this system are called spot colors. Each has its own number and sample plate, the color table is constantly updated. Each shade is reproduced according to a specific formula specially created for it. The Pantone Institute is the research center for Pantone. He is engaged in experimental work with color and determines its influence on fashion, interior design, advertising and even cinema. In 1963, Herbert Lawrence created a system for identifying, matching and mixing colors. He started working in a printing house and drew attention to the fact that each person sees and describes the color palette in his own way. To solve this communication problem, Lawrence produced a schematic book with numbered and original names in colors.

CMYK works in a completely different way than RGB, because instead of using additive colors, it actually uses subtractive colors (CMYK is an abbreviation of the English words Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key color). Key is just another name for black. The main difference is as follows; When you combine all the colors of the RGB color mode (red, green, and blue) in different amounts, you end up with white (that is, the purest combination). In CMYK color mode, all colors are subtractive, and therefore the more colors you add together, the darker the final color will be. CMYK is a color scheme used in the printing industry. The CMYK palette is the most common one today. The area of application of the CMYK color model is full-color printing. It is with this model that most printing devices work. Due to color model mismatch, it is often the case that the color to be printed cannot be reproduced using the CMYK model (such as gold or silver).
