  3. 3

    Download the result

Save the finished image to your device, or open it in the photo editor to keep retouching it with layers, filters and AI tools.

How image compression works

Photos from phones and cameras often weigh several megabytes, which is too heavy for email attachments, web pages, online forms and messengers with size limits. Compression makes the file smaller by discarding detail the eye barely notices, without changing the image's width and height.

This tool keeps the format of the original. JPG and WebP files are re-encoded at the quality you choose from 10 to 100%; around 70–85% usually saves a lot of space with no visible difference. PNG files are reduced by limiting the palette to fewer colors, which works best for screenshots, graphics and illustrations. The panel shows the original size, the compressed size and the percentage saved.

If the compressed version turns out bigger than your file, the original is kept. To make a photo even lighter, also reduce its dimensions with the resize tool.

Everything runs locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded to a server.
