PNG vs WebP
PNG is the go-to format for images with transparency — logos, icons, product cutouts, interface screenshots — but its lossless compression makes files large, especially for detailed or photographic pictures. WebP supports an alpha channel just like PNG, so transparent backgrounds survive the conversion, while its compression usually makes the same image considerably lighter.
This conversion pays off on websites and in online shops, where dozens of PNG product photos on transparent backgrounds slow pages down. Replacing them with WebP keeps the look and reduces loading time, and every modern browser displays WebP. Keep the original PNG as your master copy for editing and printing.
The converter saves WebP with a quality slider from 10 to 100%, starting at 85%. Watch the estimated size under the preview: photographic PNGs shrink the most, while simple flat graphics may gain little. For sharp text and thin lines choose a higher setting, around 90%.
Everything runs locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded to a server.
