What a JFIF file is
JFIF stands for JPEG File Interchange Format, the standard way of storing JPEG-compressed images in a file. In other words, a .jfif file already is a JPEG. The unusual extension often appears when Windows saves a picture downloaded from a browser, and some upload forms, editors and phones then refuse it simply because they don't recognize the name.
That is why the default mode here is lossless: the image data is copied bit for bit, metadata is kept and only the extension changes to .jpg. It is instant and involves no recompression. If you also want smaller files, switch to Re-encode and set the quality with a slider from 10 to 100%; the file list shows how much smaller or larger each file became.
