Why convert GIF to MP4
GIF is an old and inefficient format for motion: every frame is stored with a limited palette, so even a few seconds of animation can weigh several megabytes. An MP4 with H.264 video usually holds the same animation in a fraction of the size and in full color. Many platforms, including Instagram and TikTok, don't accept GIF uploads for posts but take MP4 without problems.
The converter reads every frame with its original delay, so the video plays at the same speed as the GIF. Since a GIF often lasts only a second or two, you can repeat the animation 1 to 50 times to make a longer clip. Small GIFs can be scaled 2×, 3× or 4×, and the Sharp pixels option keeps pixel art crisp instead of blurry; it is switched on automatically for tiny images.
MP4 has no transparency, so a GIF with transparent areas gets a background color you pick. If your browser can't encode MP4, the video is recorded as WebM instead.
Everything runs locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded to a server.
