Why turn a GIF into PNG
PNG was created in the mid-1990s as a patent-free replacement for GIF, and for still images it is better in almost every respect: lossless compression, full color instead of a 256-color palette, and smooth alpha transparency instead of on-off pixels. Converting a GIF to PNG keeps every pixel of the chosen frame exactly as it was.
This is handy when you need one frame of an animation as a sticker, an emoji, a thumbnail or an illustration for a slide, or when a program you use doesn't handle GIF well. Under the preview of an animated GIF, a slider lets you pick the frame to export; static GIFs are converted as they are.
Transparent areas stay transparent by default. If the image will be placed on a colored page, you can fill them with white, black or a custom color instead. Add many GIFs in one go and download the PNGs one at a time or as a single ZIP file.
Everything runs locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded to a server.
