About HEIC photos

HEIC is the file extension of HEIF images compressed with the HEVC codec. Apple made it the default camera format in iOS 11 in 2017 because it stores photos at roughly half the size of JPG with comparable quality. The downside is compatibility: Windows needs extra extensions to open it, and many websites, print shops, online forms and older apps reject .heic files outright.

JPG is the safest format for sharing because it opens on every computer, phone and service. Convert HEIC to JPG before emailing photos, uploading them to a site that refuses HEIC or handing them to someone on Windows or Android.

Drop a whole batch of photos at once. The quality slider starts at 92%, which looks the same as the original; lower it for smaller files. HEIC files that contain several images can be converted in full or as the first image only. The HEIC decoder, about 1.3 MB, loads once on first use, and your photos never leave your device.

Everything runs locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded to a server.
