HEIC or PNG
iPhones and iPads save photos as HEIC by default — an efficient format that keeps files small but isn't supported by many Windows programs, websites and design tools. PNG is lossless and universally compatible, so converting to it gives you a file that opens anywhere without adding any new compression artifacts.
Choose PNG over JPG when the photo is going into further editing, retouching or compositing, where every JPG save would add artifacts, or when you need a lossless master copy for print or archiving. Screenshots and images with text also stay crisper in PNG. The trade-off is size: a PNG photo is typically several times larger than the HEIC it came from.
Add many files at once. For HEIC files that hold several images, choose to convert every image or just the first one. The decoder, about 1.3 MB, is downloaded once the first time you convert, and all processing happens locally on your device.
Everything runs locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded to a server.
