About HEX and RGBA

RGBA is RGB with a fourth component, alpha, which sets opacity from 0 (fully transparent) to 1 (fully opaque). A standard six-digit HEX code such as #6A5ACD carries no transparency, so the converter returns it as rgba(106, 90, 205, 1) — the same color at full opacity.

To make it see-through, change the last number: rgba(106, 90, 205, 0.5) is half transparent, and 0.15 gives a soft tint. This is the usual way to build overlays on photos, subtle shadows, hover highlights and translucent backgrounds without defining a separate lighter color. Unlike the opacity property, alpha in rgba() affects only that one color, so text inside a semi-transparent box stays crisp.

Modern CSS also accepts eight-digit HEX codes with alpha, like #6A5ACD80, but rgba() is easier to read and edit and also works in older browsers and email clients.
