HSL and HSV compared
HSL and HSV both start with hue, an angle on the color wheel, and both describe the rest of the color with two percentages — but the percentages mean different things. In HSL, lightness 50% is the pure color and 100% is always white. In HSV, also called HSB, value 100% is the brightest version of the hue, and white is value 100% with saturation 0%. Saturation is calculated differently too, so the numbers cannot simply be copied across.
That is why a color written in CSS as hsl(120, 100%, 25%) — the CSS color Green — has to be entered in an HSV color picker as hsv(120, 100%, 50%). Use this converter when moving colors from web code into Photoshop, Figma, Blender or image processing code that works in HSV. The hue stays the same; only saturation and the third value change.
