From picture to editable text

A photo of a page, a scanned contract or a screenshot of an article contains text only as pixels: you can't search it, copy it or fix a typo. Optical character recognition (OCR) reads those pixels and turns them into real text. This tool runs the Tesseract OCR engine in your browser and builds a Word document from the result, marking noticeably larger lines as headings.

Add one or many images — JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, TIFF (including multi-page files) and HEIC are accepted. Select every language that appears in the text; 45 are available, including English, Spanish, German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Arabic. Each image becomes a new page in the .docx, and you can review and edit the text before downloading. A plain .txt download is available too.

For the best accuracy, use sharp, evenly lit photos taken straight on. Handwriting and decorative fonts are recognized poorly. Language data is downloaded once, and your images stay on your device.

Everything runs locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded to a server.
