How PDF to Word works
PDF is designed for reading and printing, not editing: text sits at fixed positions on the page, often broken into separate lines and fragments. To build a usable Word document, the converter analyzes each page, joins lines into paragraphs, detects headings by font size, keeps bold text and centered lines, and places pictures from the PDF where they appear. The result is a .docx file that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages.
Scanned PDFs have no text layer, since each page is just a picture. The tool detects this and turns on OCR, which recognizes the text on every page; choose the languages of the document from 45 available. OCR is slower, and its language data is downloaded once, while the PDF itself never leaves your device.
Password-protected files open after you enter the password. When conversion finishes, you see a text preview and the word count before downloading. Complex layouts with columns or tables may need some cleanup in Word.
Everything runs locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded to a server.
