What photo overlays do
An overlay is an extra layer blended on top of a photo to add atmosphere that wasn't there when you took it. Light leaks and sun flares imitate light hitting the lens, bokeh adds soft glowing circles, film grain and dust give an analog look, and rain and snow change the weather. A gradient map recolors the picture by brightness, with sunset, ocean, neon, gold, duotone, teal, mono and infrared palettes.
The overlays are generated on your device rather than taken from stock images, so the shuffle button gives a new pattern each time. Blend modes such as screen, overlay, soft light or multiply decide how the layer mixes with the photo, while opacity and amount control strength and density. For effects with a light source, click or drag on the photo to move it.
