About ICO files
ICO is the icon format of Windows and of the classic favicon.ico on websites. Unlike a regular image, one ICO file holds several versions of the same icon in different sizes, so the system can show a crisp 16-pixel version in a browser tab and a detailed 256-pixel one on the desktop. PNG is the best starting point because it supports transparency, which icons almost always need.
Tick the sizes to include: 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 px are available, and all except 24 are selected by default. Each size is stored inside the ICO as a PNG image, a variant supported by Windows and every browser. Transparent areas are kept, or you can fill them with a solid background color.
Start from a square PNG of at least 256 × 256 pixels. If your image isn't square, fit it with padding or crop it to a square. The preview shows every size at its real pixel dimensions before you download.
Everything runs locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded to a server.
