How PNG to SVG tracing works
A PNG is a grid of pixels, while an SVG is a set of shapes described by curves. Turning one into the other isn't a simple format change but vectorization: the tool groups similar colors into regions and traces their outlines as smooth paths. The result scales to any size without pixelation and can be recolored or edited in vector software such as Illustrator, Inkscape or Figma.
Four presets cover typical cases: Logo for flat colors and crisp edges, Detailed for many colors and fine detail, Posterized for a few colors and smooth shapes, and Black & white for two-tone line art. Then adjust the number of colors from 2 to 64 and the path smoothing — higher smoothing gives fewer, rounder curves and a smaller file. The preview shows the number of paths and the file size.
Tracing works best on logos, icons, drawings and screenshots with clean edges; photos turn into large, poster-like SVGs. Several PNGs can be traced at once and downloaded as a ZIP.
Everything runs locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded to a server.
