Instagram Video Downloader Guide

How to save your own Instagram Reels and stories with Instagram's built-in tools, and what to do with other videos.

Files never leave your device100% free

Instagram lets you download your own Reels and stories, and there are safe ways to keep videos from other accounts for personal viewing — no shady downloader sites needed.

Your own Reels and stories

  • Open the Reel, tap ⋯ → Download. Instagram saves it to your gallery (some regions add a watermark).
  • Stories: open your story, tap ⋯ → Save video. Archived stories are in Profile → ☰ → Archive.
  • To get every video at once, use Profile → ☰ → Your activity → Download your information.

Videos from other accounts

  • Many public Reels show Download in the ⋯ menu if the author allowed it.
  • Otherwise save the Reel to a collection with the bookmark icon, or use your phone's built-in screen recording for personal use.
  • Recorded a clip? Trim it and turn it into a GIF right here in the browser.

Respect copyright

  • Videos belong to their creators. Ask for permission before re-uploading and always credit the author.

PhotoRetrica never asks for your Instagram password and does not copy content from Instagram servers.

Saving Instagram videos safely

This page is a guide, not a downloader: PhotoRetrica does not fetch videos from Instagram servers and never asks for your password. Instagram itself lets you download your own Reels from the menu of the video, save your stories from the story menu or the archive, and request an archive of all your videos in the Your activity section of your profile.

Many public Reels also show a Download option if the author allowed it; in some regions the saved file gets a watermark. If there is no such option, save the Reel to a collection with the bookmark icon, or use your phone's screen recording for personal viewing only.

Videos belong to their creators, so ask before re-uploading and always credit the author. Once you have a clip of your own, you can trim it in the PhotoRetrica video editor or turn it into a GIF right in the browser.

Everything runs locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded to a server.
