How the favicon check works
The checker opens the page you enter the way a browser would, reads every icon tag in its code, loads the web app manifest and requests /favicon.ico from the site root. Each icon is then downloaded to measure its real format and pixel size, so you see what the files actually contain, not only what the HTML claims.
The results are grouped by platform. For desktop browsers it checks for a working ICO, PNG or SVG favicon and for broken links. For Google search it looks for a square icon of 48 px or a multiple of it. For iPhone it checks the 180×180 Apple touch icon and whether it has transparent areas, which iOS fills with black. For Android it checks the manifest, the 192 and 512 px icons, a maskable icon, the app name and the theme color. Every warning comes with a short explanation of how to fix it.
If something is missing, create a complete set in our favicon generator, upload the files and run the check again. Browsers and Google cache favicons for a long time, so a new icon may take a while to appear in tabs and search results even when the check already passes. Only public addresses can be checked, and the checker doesn't store the pages it reads.
Everything runs locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded to a server.
