About openly licensed images

This search is powered by Openverse, a free library that indexes openly licensed media from many collections: photos, illustrations and digitized artwork under Creative Commons licenses or in the public domain. Type what you need or tap a topic such as Nature, City, Food or Animals, then filter by license, type, orientation and size.

Free does not always mean free of conditions. Most Creative Commons licenses require crediting the author, and some forbid commercial use or modification, so use the commercial use and modification filters when you need them. Each image shows its author, license and source, plus a ready attribution text you can copy and paste next to the image.

Download the image or open it straight in the photo editor. Openverse allows about 20 searches per minute without an account, and the license on the original source page is always the final word.

Everything runs locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded to a server.
