About Canon CR2 files
CR2 is the RAW format of Canon cameras, used by EOS models for well over a decade until CR3 replaced it in newer bodies. A RAW file stores unprocessed sensor data, which gives maximum room for editing, but it needs dedicated software to open and the files are large. Phones, websites and most image viewers can't show CR2 at all.
Every CR2 also contains a full-size JPEG rendered by the camera, with your white balance and picture style applied. This converter extracts that preview instead of performing a slow RAW development, so the result looks like the in-camera JPEG, and it shows the preview's dimensions in pixels. By default the JPEG is saved bit for bit — instantly and with no extra loss. If it had to be rotated to match the camera orientation, it is re-encoded.
Switch to Re-encode to set a quality from 10 to 100% for smaller files. Convert a whole shoot at once and download the JPGs as a ZIP. For real RAW adjustments, use a RAW editor.
