What contrast does to a photo
Contrast is the difference between the light and dark parts of an image. Shots taken in fog, through a window or on an overcast day often look flat and grey; raising contrast pushes shadows darker and highlights lighter, so shapes and textures stand out again.
Lowering contrast has the opposite effect: it tames harsh midday light and gives a calm, faded, matte look that suits portraits and lifestyle photos. The slider starts at 100%, and steps of 10–20% are usually enough, since strong contrast loses detail in the darkest and brightest areas.
Saturation and warmth sliders sit below, because added contrast also makes colors look more intense and you may want to balance them. The result is saved in the original format.
